Olivia Jade x Princess Polly Review & Dupes

Last night Olivia Jade launched her clothing line with Princess Polly Boutique. Her video went live the night before, and neither nor the company discussed a release time. Me, being the neurotic, obsessive person i am, checked my email every ten minutes starting at 6 am waiting my “early release” access link, that NEVER came. To say I am bitter is an understatement, especially because the line launched at 10 pm. I understand that she is in California, but girl I have a job.

The collection in her words is a combination of street-wear/tom-boy with a girly flare. I believe that it does encompass the way she dresses well. The items on the other hand cost a pretty penny. Multiple people commented on her page complaining about the prices, and saying it just wasn’t in their budget right now.

As much as I wanted many of the items, I limited myself to the 5 I could really see myself wearing. The rest of these items though, are similar to pieces I’ve seen in many other stores for cheaper prices. That is why I am here to help you, find the pieces at a more wallet friendly cost.

This is the Sister Jacket. A white denim cropped jacket, that matches perfectly with the white jeans in her collection.

A White Fluffy Christmas

Whoever said white shouldn’t be worn after Labor Day was wildly mistaken. Christmas and white goes together like peanut butter and jelly. A white Christmas cannot be complete without snow, and of course a fluffy teddy coat from (dare I say) Walmart. Yes, WALMART
I had my boyfriend’s formal and wore a red two piece skirt/tube top from Nasty Gal. While super cute, and very fitting for the holiday, it was strapless and I am always cold. I went to look for a jacket that would go well with our holiday theme that we wanted and when I saw this white “sleep coat” I knew it was meant to be. I did find it in the pajama section, but I think it looks just like all of the coats that have been selling out of Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, Macys, etc. It doesn’t have a zipper, which is unfortunate, but honestly it’s so warm and looks great over everything. I wore it over a crew-neck sweater as well, and it still looked stylish.

*In case you were wondering, my boyfriend’s lovely jacket and tie are also from Walmart.

Black Friday / Cyber Monday

Ya girl is back. I’m going to be honest, Black Friday is my favorite day to have off from work. I went to the mall around 9am to start shopping, waking my boyfriend up to come with me (goals or what??). This year though, I was extremely disappointed in the sales. I will be linking all the items I did purchase below, but I decided to include Cyber Monday along with it because I didn’t do the best in stores. Once I receive everything I will do a big haul with outfit ideas! I’m so excited!

Express had a 50% off sale on EVERYTHING! I mostly stuck to items I could wear to work (middle school)

  1. I got this yellow turtleneck ribbed long sleeve. It’s tight fitted & thick, perfect for layering. I really wanted the white one, but my boyfriend talked me out of it so I could mix things up.
  2. I went with a multicolored oversized sweater (similar but not exact). I thought adding some color to my wardrobe would be a nice touch! This wear can be worn as a top layer, or can be paired with knee boots.
  3. These high waisted pants are so fun! The color is no longer available but I got them with a hint of yellow in the lines so they’d match with the sweater that I discussed earlier.
  4. Lastly, I got this black mock neck tank top (body suit linked not tank top). I thought it would be a great piece to add to my wardrobe because it can be worn with jeans or dress pants or a skirt, etc. It is just the perfect staple, & is very slimming.

Adidas had a sale on some items.

  1. These sneakers spoke to me because they’re pink. I was just looking for a pair of sneakers for the gym, & I thought this might be nice. We’ll see when I get them in the mail!

Nasty Gal is still having 60% off everything! I found some fun pieces here that I can’t wait to style!

  1. I saw this bodysuit on Maggie Macdonald’s youtube channel a few weeks ago and thought it was a unique spin on a bodysuit. I think this would look so cool over a black turtleneck and colored jeans or pants!
  2. Long sleeve bodysuits are fun to wear with really anything. This one has slits on the arm so it can be worn all year round.
  3. Another white bodysuit, I know, but this I really liked the tie sleeves on this tank top.
  4. I’m not sure if I am going to keep these leather pants, but I thought they were a fun makeover to typical joggers, and could definitely be worn out on a Friday night.

Outfit ideas, and pictures will be provided when I receive everything in the mail!

Thankful for Great Finds

Here are just some Thanksgiving outfits I put together last minute! I know I’m not big on wear a lot of accessories but these outfits could be dressed up and taken to the next level with some necklaces!

My first outfit is from Thanksgiving Eve. I went out with a few friends, and needed to dress super warm. I went with a turtleneck body suit (that I lowkey wear almost everyday), and high waisted trousers pants from Urban Outfitters. The higher the better so I could hide a pair of leggings underneath, & then I finished the outfit off with a pair of black booties, a red leather bag I got in Italy, & a leather jacket.

My second outfit is for actual Thanksgiving. I probably won’t be wearing this outfit for longer than an hour because I will be too stuffed to still fit, but here we go! My sweater is from H&M, and while it’s super cute I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone because it’s so itchy. Why would I still wear it for the picture? Because this is the kind of sweater your mom probably has in her closet (lol). My skirt is from Target. Yes TARGET. Honestly let’s all tell Target how thankful we are for them today because their clothing options have been on point lately. Plaid skirts are very in right now, & this skirt is perfect for a holiday with a judgmental family like mine, or even a day in the office. I paired this with black stockings & my new favorite booties from ALDO. These are the cutest booties I have ever seen. Lastly, I brought out the same red bag from last night, & a red pea coat (not pictured), because New York is freeeeezing. Honestly I’m pretty warm, besides my wet hair (because I refuse to use a blow dryer), so I’m pretty happy with the results!

Have a very Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Thrifting Jeans Queen

Mom jeans are all the rage right now. Seriously, they are wonderful. They are high waisted, and they’re a looser fit, therefore a win-win. They also go with anything, & are a desirable option for almost every season. Jeans can be super expensive, especially depending on where you buy them from, but I believe that vintage is the way to go.

When thrifting for jeans I look for brands that I’ve heard of because I know regardless of the price, it’s going to be lower than retail price. The best best best jeans I have thrifted have actually come from the men’s department. There are some things I must consider when shopping here though. I have wider hips than most men, so usually I have to size up. Second, I have to look for a style that isn’t too long, so I usually go for a straight leg cut. With Levi’s in particular I look for 501s, or 505s & usually have to wind up cutting them or cuffing them (but in a stylish matter).

When in the women’s section I have a harder time finding pairs that I like, but I always try things on. When thrifting I always wear clothes that are easy to change out of. I HAVE TO try on jeans because no matter what store I’m at I have the hardest time buying jeans. That’s why I opt for thrifting because they are usually the cheaper option.

At the end of the day, finding a comfortable pair of stylish jeans is all I’m looking to do. When thrifting I’m doing the same thing, except looking for them at a cheaper price.

Stay Frugal,

Moves Like Joggers

I didn’t jump on the joggers train right away. Honestly I really wasn’t about them, nor was I a fan of men wearing them either. Why would I want to wear “skinny” sweatpants? Then I started watching too much youtube (specifically Maggie Macdonald) & I dragged my boyfriend to the mall to get myself a pair. I picked up a mint green adidas pair just to try them out. Now I never change out of them.
I don’t follow a lot of celebrities on Instagram, but Hannah Zeile was rocking a pair of maroon velour joggers on a ferris wheel. I decided that I needed them. I’m not one to spend $70 dollars on a pair of sweatpants, but I persuaded myself into buying them (because I had a discount). Spending $70 dollars on a pair of sweatpants deserves a post on how to rock them in public without looking like I rolled out of bed.

Keeping Up with the Joneses

About three months ago, I decided that I am going to be one of those style queen moms. The kind of mom that other kids wish their mom could dress like. The person whose outfits look super expensive, but when they remember that I’m a teacher they question how I could afford it. “So how can you afford this lifestyle?” One might ask. This is the type of lifestyle that seems like it might cost a lot of money, but being someone that has been dedicated to finding my style since I was younger, I have picked up some tips and tricks in order to make it seem like I spend a lot of money on my attire, but really I just shop smart especially when it comes to staying on trend, and wearing designer/high end brands.

Where to Shop

The where is super important. When looking for items that are high end or name brand I stick to a few stores. Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Nordstrom Rack, and Outlet Stores are where I find myself searching for quality pieces at low prices. When shopping at Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Nordstrom Rack I have to prepare myself for the mess I am about to encounter. These stores have loads of items from clothing to accessories to random knick knacks. I do a lot of searching through racks which is time consuming but usually worth it. Things to look out for are signs that say “Designer Brands” or “Currently On Trend”. These racks are usually in the front of the store, and are more organized than the rest of the store. If I have the time, I find myself on an adventure to find the best items for the best prices. I’ve found Levi’s for 4 dollars on the clearance rack, and Free People dresses for $25, along with many other items that I would have never purchased at retail price. My favorite part is when I pay and the receipt tells me how much money I saved. The Outlets are a different type of adventure. Each brand usually has their store. Tanger Outlet specifically has coupon books that can be purchased for ten dollars or less that have discounts for almost every store. Some stores have new arrivals on sale for a limited amount of time so I can find what’s new for the season at a price I can afford. They also have last season stuff on sale usually, which I sometimes pick up to mix with new pieces or save for the following year.

Comparing Prices

Sometimes when I find an item in a store that I know I can’t afford I will take a picture of the tag and search for the item on their website when I get home. I will copy the exact name of the item and put it into Google to search for other stores that might be selling the same product. These is a great way to see what stores might be having a sale and where I might want to try shopping at instead. I also will decide where to buy an item from depending on where I might have a coupon. I use the browser app Honey or I just save up discount codes to use when I actually want an item.

Signing up for Newsletters

I subscribe to many online stores. Mostly accidentally, and then my email gets flooded with unwanted emails, but every so often I receive glorious gifts in the form of coupons or money off! Some stores offer free memberships (I don’t pay for anything) and by signing up I get special promotions, or early bird discounts. For example, I signed up to be a member for Calvin Klein online. Because of this, every two hundred dollars I spend (over time not at once) I get twenty dollars off a purchase that I can use when I choose. They also let you submit older receipts and you can count that money towards your two hundred dollars as well. Urban Outfitters members get five dollar discounts when they get 100% on their rewards for shopping at their stores and entering contests as well. One of the best things that stores having my emails is that when I leave items in my cart for a period of time, sometimes I get an email with a discount of 10-15% off. I also get coupons for my birthday and even half birthday sometimes. I might as well be rewarded for the money I spend.

While looking expensive might seem like a luxury, I think I do a great job of looking my best on a budget. Though these tips may seem time consuming when I want something right away, I know the wait will pay off in the long run.

Stay tuned for my next outfit and tips!

xx, Gina
